Helping others where it's needed most

In 1989, Steve DeJong utilized his characteristic ingenuity and initiative, and parlayed a summer job at his father’s business into a thriving and successful entrepreneurial endeavor. Intrigued by the fledgling “green” powder coating industry and spurred on by his own ambition, Steve founded Profile Powder Coating, which later evolved into Profile Companies.

In his typical hands-on fashion, Steve made a point of performing every job in his facility at one time or another. By utilizing this proactive method, Steve was able to fully appreciate and anticipate the challenges of each position, design creative solutions and plan cost-effective time-management processes as well. This universal approach to owning and operating a business is what has made Steve DeJong uniquely qualified to understand every facet of a manufacturing and powder coating organization.

As the years passed and Profile Companies grew, Steve expanded his training and education by completing several seminars and workshops related to Lean Manufacturing and Powder Coating, along with Dale Carnegie’s infamous How to Win Friends and Influence People. From each experience, Steve was able to apply what he’d learned in order to improve his company.

Steve’s experience and training in the powder coating industry afforded him the skills he needed to engineer groundbreaking new techniques, offering customers the option of innovative powder coating technology on MDF, plastics, glass and composite, all substrates previously considered non-conducive to powder coating. As such, Profile Companies earned a reputation as one of the few companies in the industry with the means and ability to powder coat on non-traditional substrates.

The proof of Steve’s success could be seen in the caliber of clients (notables such as Target, Graco and Wagner Spray Tech) and the size of projects awarded (store fixtures, $20 million; air filtration, $10 million; electrical enclosures, $10 million; office furniture, $5 million; and die casting, $5 million). As a result, Steve grew Profile Companies into an organization with billings in excess of $50 million.

In 2009, Steve expanded his professional endeavors and launched a new company—Manufacturing Systems Development, LLC. At the helm of Manufacturing Systems Development, Steve’s mission is to assist those in the powder coating and manufacturing industries to achieve the highest level of notable, measurable success in every facet of business. Manufacturing Systems Development will do this by providing expert consultancy in enhanced processes, efficiencies and management.
